== Background ==

Prior to the installation of this memorial, community members had created memorial webpages/sites, memorials in other worlds (There, Second Life), and even their own Uru ages to honor fellow Myst/Uru community members who had died. Additionally, they had requested that Cyan create a memorial in Uru <ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=383 MOUL Forum post by Eleri: Memorial Plaque]</ref><ref>[http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=85969#p85969 MOUL forum post by Sixdd requesting a memorial]</ref><ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5278 MOUL forum post by Marck: A graveyard]</ref><ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8483 MOUL forum thread by Vormaen: An idea for those who have passed.]</</ref><ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8957 MOUL forum post by Simon_Bitdiddle: DRC ResEng Memorial?]</ref> and Cyan indicated as early as June 2006 that “something along these lines” was already planned.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=7655#p7655 MOUL forum post by RAWA regarding plans for a memorial]</ref>

In early 2006, during the D’mala era, the <abbr title="Non-Player Character">NPC</abbr> "Wheely" was introduced as being Willow Engberg, daughter of D'ni Restoration Council (DRC) member Michael Engberg. She spent quite a bit of time with the explorers in the cavern so that by May 2007, she was well known among the players and many were fond of her. On May 18, 2007, the NPC “Rosette” was introduced as a close friend of Wheely’s from Portland, Oregon.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=168841#p168841 Marck’s chatlog of meeting Rosette] </ref> The MOUL episode, “Scars” began May 19, 2007 with a [http://drcarch.thecitadel.nl/communication/ki-mail/safety-alert/ “Safety Alert”]([https://web.archive.org/web/20150826141933/http://drcarch.thecitadel.nl/communication/ki-mail/safety-alert/ WM]) KI-mail from the DRC warning explorers to be cautious in the Kahlo Pub area due to new cracks being discovered there. The next day, Wheely and Rosette were in the cavern doing marker missions. Other explorers, concerned for their safety, tried to convince the girls to stay out of the city, but failing that, joined them with the intention of keeping a watchful eye and steer them away from the dangerous area.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10333 MOUL forum thread by Thend: Wheely & Rosette -05/20/07-Council Hood,Ae'gura,Kadish,G]([https://web.archive.org/web/20150826144540/http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10333 WM])</ref> But the girls managed to slip away alone to the city and shortly thereafter, they disappeared from everyone's KI. DRC members and explorers began searching for them while other explorers held vigils and waited both in the cavern and on the forums for more news. Bahros were seen in the city and low rumbles were heard coming from the area of the Kahlo Pub where it was discovered the ceiling had collapsed. Explorers soon learned that Rosette had died in the cave in and Wheely was trapped there.<ref>[http://drcarch.thecitadel.nl/communication/ki-mail/city-reopened/ 05/21/2007 DRC KI-mail, "City Reopened"]</ref> As the DRC attempted to rescue her all the next day, explorers anxiously listened to relayers in the cavern or watched the forums for any news.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10010 MOUL forum thread: "Wheely is missing?-Update; Dreadful News"] ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150823201028/http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10010 WM])</ref> On May 22nd, they were stunned to learn of her death just before rescuers were able to reach her.<ref>[http://drcarch.thecitadel.nl/communication/ki-mail/tragedy/ 05/22/2007 DRC KI-mail "Tragedy in the Cavern"]([https://web.archive.org/web/20150826142040/http://drcarch.thecitadel.nl/communication/ki-mail/tragedy/ WM])</ref>

== History ==

On June 26, 2007, DRC member Marie Sutherland unveiled the memorial outside of the Kahlo Pub saying, “It seems I should say something for this occasion, but I don't have the words. We have spent the last month trying to decide how to memorialize the explorers that we've lost. Nothing I can say will do justice to their memories, so I won't even try. But this will be a small token.”<ref>[http://forums.guildofgreeters.com/index.php?showtopic=13124 Guild of Greeters’ forum: Marie Sutherland chatlog]</ref>

The initial names on the memorial at that time were Janet "Pehpsi" Burress, James "Aquila" Carpenter, "JDrake", Willow "Wheely" Engberg, Phil "phend" Henderson, Maureen "Mo'zie" Jannot, "Rasmine", Jim "Dust'ei" Rhodes, and Rosette Taylor. (“Rasmine” was actually “Ramsine,” a member of the German community which informed Cyan of the error and it was corrected.<ref>[http://www.uru-reallife.com/viewtopic.php?p=56115#p56115 Uru Reallife forum post about Ramsine] ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150826112508/http://www.uru-reallife.com/viewtopic.php?p=56115 WM])</ref> Also, Janet "Pehpsi" Burress would be corrected to Janet "Pehpsee" Burress.<ref>[http://forums.guildofgreeters.com/index.php?showtopic=14881&st=0&p=231733&#entry231733 December 17, 2008 post by Jarelav to Guild of Greeters forum thread, "Birthday Remembrance For Pepsi, 05 December"] [https://web.archive.org/web/20170109235841/http://forums.guildofgreeters.com/index.php?showtopic=14881&st=0&p=231733& (WM)]</ref>)

Following the unveiling, the DRC sent a KI-mail to all explorers, [http://drcarch.thecitadel.nl/communication/ki-mail/wheely-memorial/ “Wheely Memorial”]([https://web.archive.org/web/20150826141714/http://drcarch.thecitadel.nl/communication/ki-mail/wheely-memorial/ WM]) announcing the memorial and requesting submissions of the names of other explorers who had passed away along with a description of how each contributed to the restoration.

The inclusion of NPC Phil "phend" Henderson on the memorial when it was initially installed was part of a story line in which the DRC believed he had died in 2003 when a wall in the cavern collapsed. Although his body was never found, he was presumed dead. However, phend re-appeared in the cavern on August 3rd, 2007 <ref>[http://www.guildofgreeters.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=77&Itemid=38#top Guild of Greeters page: A Guide to Characters]</ref> and his name was removed from the memorial.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=198254#p198254 MOUL forum post by ziggy2765]([https://web.archive.org/web/20150827024548/http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=198254 WM])</ref> For some unknown reason, Phil's name was re-added to the memorial when the cavern re-opened in 2010,<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=323335#p323335 MOUL forum post by CrisGer with KI shot of memorial] ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150831131821/http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=334616 WM]), [http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=334616#p334616 MOUL forum posts mentioning Phil's name on the memorial] ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150831131856/http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=323335 WM])</ref> but was eventually removed again.

Over the years, new names have been added. Three community members (CAGrayWolf, Jahuti, and Gandhar) died while the cavern was closed between April 2008 and January 2010 and their names were added when the cavern re-opened in 2010.

On February 20, 2010, Ghaelen and the Guild of Healers held a "Memorial and Welcome Home" event at the Kahlo Pub.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=323335#p323335 Saturday Memorial and Welcome Home at Kahlo Pub] ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150831131821/http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=334616 WM])</ref> and on February 4, 2012, held a "Memorial Vigil" during the second anniversary celebrations of the cavern re-opening.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=381546#p381546 2nd Anniversary Cavern Re-(re-)Opening Celebration], ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150831133102/http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=381546 WM])</ref>

A post made to the Uru Obsession forum on the day of the unveiling included a list of the names, but reported the name Maureen "Mo'zie" Jannot only as "Mo'zie" and the list was copied to other forums, including the Guild of Greeters<ref>[http://forums.guildofgreeters.com/index.php?showtopic=13124 Guild of Greeters’ forum post, listing names]</ref> and MOUL<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=179703#p179703 Jun 26, 2007 MOUL post, listing names]</ref>. Unfortunately, that list was used as a reference when the memorial was reactivated just before the cavern reopened in 2010. The error was discovered in the course of research for this project, <abbr title="Richard A. Watson">RAWA</abbr> was notified and the name was corrected on September 1, 2015.

The name, "[[Deirdre Karris]]" was added to the memorial on October 9th and removed on October 30, 2015.

Kees "Grassie73" Grashoff was added to the memorial in January 2016.

In January 2017, it was discovered that sometime shortly after the June 2007 unveiling, Janet "Pehpsi" Burress had been changed to Janet "Pehpsee" Burress. It is unknown exactly when or why, but theorized that it had been brought to Cyan's attention that the latter spelling was the one Janet had used for her cavern avatar. And, because the list of names assembled on the day of the unveiling was the one used as a reference, the former spelling was applied when the memorial was reactivated just before the cavern reopened in 2010. This error was corrected on January 9, 2017.

Gorma Louise "GLO" O'Conner and Al "Wamduskasapa" Edwards were added on February 22, 2017. Don "Sailor86" Billow was added in February 2018. David Ogden Stiers was added on 06 March 2018. Terri "Tai'lahr" Richardson was added on October 18, 2019.

== Submissions ==

Requests for adding names to the memorial can be submitted to Cyan, using the format: <firstName> "<avatarName/nickName>" <lastName>.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=419000#p419000 MOUL forum post by RAWA]</ref> Due diligence will be done to verify the person and their passing, so providing as much information as possible (i.e., proof) can expedite the process.

<div class="user-block">'''''Caution'''''<hr>Anyone considering submitting a name not directly tied to an actual death should also consider the repercussions. The memorial is considered sacred by many community members, especially those who knew someone on it. Many of them do not even like that the names of the NPCs Wheely & Rosette are included and would likely be offended by the inclusion of a fake name or one linked to a falsely reported death.</div>

'''Name:''' This is the name that will appear in the displayed block. Generally, this template will be used once on a page for the subject of the biography, so this is likely to be the same as the page title. It may be simply the commonly known user name, or a combination of real name and username depending upon what is known.

'''Dates:''' Date of birth and date of death, both in the form "17 January 1965". Omit any parts that are unknown, e.g. if only the month and year of death are known then use that, e.g. "June 2018".

'''Realname:''' The real name of the subject.

'''Location:''' Place residence at death.

'''Bio:''' Biography, giving as much relevant detail as you feel is useful.

'''Memberships:''' List any forum or community group memberships. Include links to user profiles, if available.

'''Remembrances:''' Detail any community or public memorial or notices, including links.

===== Celebrating Explorers We've Lost =====

In Second Life, Tai'lahr created a tribute to these explorers which was displayed for one day, Sunday, November 1, 2015. A stone podium held a Relto linking book which displayed their names in rotation and would give anyone who touched it a notecard about the person whose name was being displayed. A waterwall served as a backdrop and twenty-two candles framed the podium. The candles would light at sunset and each one displayed the name of one of the explorers. A light would shine on the podium and Kadish Gallery music would play throughout the night. At sunrise, the music would stop and the candles extinguish one by one in order of the explorers' deaths. (Nighttime happens every four hours in SL and lasts for about an hour, so this happened six times during the RL day.) Throughout the day, the parcel was tuned to Radio KRHI where Ghaelen was broadcasting Myst/Uru and other appropriate music. In the evening, the parcel was tuned to Ktahdn's Music Night broadcast which was also a special tribute. Ghaelen captured the tribute in [http://www.delandria.com/media/SLExplorerTribute1Nov2015v2.mp4 a video here].

Kirel

2018-03-07T14:23:32Z

Mac Fife: /* Trivia */ Update link

{{NewGreeters}}
{{Spoiler}}

'''Kirel''' is a neighborhood located in the D'ni cavern's "city proper" on the cavern wall. It is a mirrored version of the [[Bevin]]-style [[Neighborhood|neighborhood]] with different-styled lamps and a more blue-green hue. It is currently used as a place to introduce newcomers to the explorer-run Guilds and can be linked to as soon as the [[Nexus]] is discovered and a '''KI''' obtained.

== History ==
Not much is known about Kirel during the time of the D'ni. When the [[D'ni Restoration Council|DRC]] were working in the cavern, they used Kirel as a base of operations to send messages out to the other various hoods. After [[Phil Henderson|Phil Henderson's]] supposed death, his [[Phil's Relto|Relto book]] was taken by '''Douglas Sharper''' to the [[Spyroom|spyroom]]. Crafty explorers were able to find the spyroom and get to Phil's Relto. Since Phil had been working for the DRC, he had a Linking Book to Kirel on his Relto shelf, which had been left unlocked. Using the book, explorers were able to visit the DRC's neighborhood.

=== Myst Online: URU Live ===
After the first shutdown and subsequent return of the DRC, the group decided to convert Kirel from their offices to a centralized location to learn about the various explorer Guilds they wished to help create. As such, several tables and numerous Guild shirts were brought in to facilitate this. Once all was set, '''Cate Alexander''' and the rest of the DRC opened Kirel via a Nexus link. The Linking Book on Phil's Relto was also relocked.

== Locations ==
* Fountain Area - You link in here.
* Auditorium - Upstairs from the fountain area.
* Classroom - Behind the Messengers table. Locked.
* Egg Room - Behind the Maintainers and Messengers tables. Locked.
* Book Room
* Light Garden

== Collectables Checklist ==
* Guild Shirt - Only one type of shirt to an explorer. See [[Guild Pubs]].

== Trivia ==
* The doors behind the Maintainers and Messengers tables were opened by entering the '''"Bob O'Goobo"''' code using the three sets of lights in the light garden (blue, green and orange). Since Myst Online: URU Live, this has been deactivated.
* An audio message from '''Dr. Richard Watson''' (voiced by [[David Ogden Stiers (actor)|David Ogden Stiers]]) could be played by pressing the large blue button on the pedestal in the auditorium. This has also been removed as of MOUL.

Cavern Status Widget

2017-06-11T19:57:00Z

Mac Fife: /* Mini Widget */ Correct lang setting to BBCode

This is a simple widget that you can use in webpages to display the current status of the MOULagain servers.

==General==

During the development of the styling for the OpenUru.org website, it was felt that offering an indication of whether the MOULa cavern was open or not could be a useful feature. This already (partly) existed in the Cyan MOULa client launcher, in the form of the "welcome" message displayed during startup. By "piggybacking" on the source of that message, and after negotiating with Cyan on a standard for flags within the messages, it became possible to provide green, yellow or red status lights:
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/img/led-green.gif</div>  - Open. Logins are unrestricted.</p>
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/img/led-yellow.gif</div>  - Restrictions. The cavern is open but some restrictions are in place, e.g. there is downtime scheduled to occur shortly.</p>
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/img/led-red.gif</div>  - Closed. No user logins are permitted.</p>

A link back to the "Play" page at mystonline.com was included in the displayed status to help support Cyan Worlds, as well as the entirety of the status message, which may at times include promotional messages for other Cyan products.

In response to enquiries following the announcement of this feature, a widget was split out from the site styling to allow others to include this in their own webpages. The widget can be made to display in various forms and styles using the control options described in the [[#Usage|Usage section]]. Some examples are given in the following images:

<center>http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/cavstat1.png<br>
'''Full Cavern Status with border line added'''</center>

<center>http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/cavstat2.png<br>
'''Minimised Cavern Status'''</center>

<center>http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/cavstat3.png<br>
'''Cavern Status with alternative colors'''</center>

=== CAVCON Indication ===
The widget has been updated following the discovery in early October 2011 that the donation "CAVCON" status being reported on the mystonline.com forums had been in error for some considerable time[http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=377307#377307]. Cyan Worlds have started to include a CAVCON indication within the welcome message text. In an effort to highlight this status the widget now includes a colored icon corresponding to the declared CAVCON level, as shown below. No icon is shown if there is no CAVCON indication included in the welcome message.

'''The CAVCON scale:'''
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/icons/dollar_red2.png</div>  - CAVCON 1: Donations are less than MO:ULagain expenses, and the reserve fund is empty.</p>
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/icons/dollar_orange2.png</div>  - CAVCON 2: Donations are less than MO:ULagain expenses, and the reserve fund is being used to help pay for MO:ULagain expenses.</p>
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/icons/dollar_yellow2.png</div>  - CAVCON 3: Donations are roughly equal to MO:ULagain expenses.</p>
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/icons/dollar_blue2.png</div>  - CAVCON 4: Donations are exceeding MO:ULagain expenses, and a small reserve fund is being built.</p>
<p><div style="float: left">http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/icons/dollar_green2.png</div>  - CAVCON 5: Donations are exceeding MO:ULagain expenses, there are a couple of months of MO:ULagain expenses in reserve, and extra money can be put toward server upgrades, bug fixes, new content, incorporating fan created content, etc.</p>

==Usage==
The simplest way to use the Cavern Status Widget is by inserting an iframe in your webpage at the point you'd like the widget to appear:

<syntaxhighlight lang="html4strict">
<iframe src="http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat.php" width="550px" height="120px" frameborder="0">
<p>Your browser does not support iframes.</p>
</iframe>
</syntaxhighlight>

The width and height settings in the iframe determine the size of the space allowed in your page for the status message. If the message box can't be fitted inside that space, then scroll bars may appear. Setting <code>frameborder = "0"</code> hides the rather ugly boundary that would otherwise be shown.

To avoid using an iframe or have more control over presentation, see [[#Advanced_topics|Advanced topics]].

=== Usage Notes ===
Recent updates to the code behind the widget introduced local caching of the status message that is fetched from Cyan's support server. This has a number of effects:
# Page display is faster since there no longer is a need to wait on an additional GET each time the status message is displayed.
# Page load will not "hang" for an extended time if the Cyan support server is offline.
# Loading on the Cyan support server is limited and flattened out.
# The displayed state of the Cavern may "lag" the true state by up to one minute (the cache refresh interval).

Please remember that the Cavern Status display is not dynamic: It will ''only'' update if you refresh or reload the page you are viewing. There is no universally easy way to have the server "push" a real-time update to your browser.

==Controlling the appearance==
You can control the appearance of the status message so that it blends better with your webpage: Add a '?' after the call to cavstat.php then list the parameter=value pairs, separating each with '&' and making sure to avoid leaving any spaces. The possible parameters are:
* '''color=''' The color of the text as a hex value, omitting the usual leading '#' symbol. Defaults to black if parameter omitted.

* '''bgcolor=''' The background color of the box containing the status message, as a hex value, omitting the usual leading '#' symbol. Defaults to grey (DDDDDD) if parameter omitted.

* '''txtsize=''' The size of the body text of the message, e.g. 12pt, 14px, 1.1em. Defaults to 1.0em if parameter is omitted.

* '''hdsize=''' The size of the heading text of the message, e.g. 12pt, 14px, 1.1em. The headings are bold, so you may want to reduce the size compared to the main text to restore some "balance". Defaults to 0.8em if parameter is omitted.

* '''width=''' The width of the box containing the status message, in px or %. Note that the iframe may also have a width specified and you may need to adjust both get a satisfactory result. Defaults to 500px if parameter is omitted.

* '''height=''' The height of the box containing the status message, in px or %. Note that the iframe may also have a height specified and you may need to adjust both get a satisfactory result. Defaults to 60px if parameter is omitted.

* '''border=''' The color of the border around the box containing the status message, as a hex value, omitting the usual leading '#' symbol. The border is a 1px solid line and is only displayed if a value is specified, otherwise the box will be borderless (default).

* '''type=''' Controls the display and styling type:
** maxi : The default display - shows the cavern status indication and a link to Cyan's "Play" page on the first line, and the Cyan "Developer's message" on the second line.
** midi : Single line display, with only the cavern status and the "Play" link.
** mini : Single line display, with only the cavern status included.
** raw : Most inline styling is removed and all other parameters are ignored. Used when applying local styling in more advanced uses (see below).
** text : All styling is removed, with only the cavern status in plain text.
** jsonp : Provides the output in JSON-P (Javascript Object Notation with Padding) format, intended for javascript/jQuery users. See the additional notes below on using this option.

Example:
<syntaxhighlight lang="html4strict">
<iframe src="http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat.php?bgcolor=ffdddd&hdsize=0.9em&border=000099" width="550px" height="120px" frameborder="0">
<p>Your browser does not support iframes.</p>
</iframe>
</syntaxhighlight>

== Mini Widget ==

The "Mini Widget" is a small, graphic element intended for basic status indication or for inclusion in things like forum signatures.

There are three versions of this and the examples given will work for inserting the widget into many popular forums:
* cavstat.gif - http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/open.gif : http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/closed.gif
<syntaxhighlight lang="bbcode">
[img]http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat.gif[/img]
</syntaxhighlight>
* cavstat_b.gif - http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/awake.gif : http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/asleep.gif
<syntaxhighlight lang="bbcode">
[img]http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat_b.gif[/img]
</syntaxhighlight>
* cavstat_c.gif - http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/green.gif : http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/yellow.gif : http://assets.openuru.org/wiki/cavstat/red.gif
<syntaxhighlight lang="bbcode">
[img]http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat_c.gif[/img]
</syntaxhighlight>
Note that only the cavstat_c variant will show all three possible states: The others will treat "Restrictions" and "Closed" as the same state (which is effectively true for the typical user).

==Advanced topics==
=== PHP ===
If your page is written in PHP, you could use the [http://www.php.net/manual/en/book.curl.php cURL library] to fetch the widget output and build it into your page. This would allow you to use the IDs and classes along with your own page CSS to apply styling. For this, you need to ensure that all unwanted inline styling is removed from the widget by using the <code>?type=raw</code> control.

This will produce a code fragment that looks similar to:
<syntaxhighlight lang="html4strict">
<div id="cspanel">
<span class="cshead">Cavern Status:</span>
<img src="http://www.openuru.org/sitestyle/img/led-green.gif"> Open for exploration!
<div id="cavstat_link">
- <a href="http://mystonline.com/play/"> Sign up to play at MystOnline.com!</a>
</div>
<div id="cavstat_row2">
<span class="cshead">Developer Message:</span> Welcome to Myst Online: Uru Live!
</div>
<div style="font-size: 8px; text-align: right;"><a href="http://www.openuru.org/">www.openuru.org</a></div>
</div>
</syntaxhighlight>

Include the following functions in your PHP:
<syntaxhighlight lang="php">
// Check availability of site
function isURLOnline($sSiteToCheck)
{
if(phpversion() > "5.2")
{
if(function_exists('get_headers')==True && ini_get('allow_url_fopen') == true)
{
$sIUOTemp = @get_headers($sSiteToCheck);
if($sIUOTemp == '')
{
return True; // Assume it's online even when nothing is returned
}
else
{
if(strpos($sIUOTemp[0], '200') == true)
{
return True;
}
else
{
return False;
}
}
}
else
{
return True; // Assume true if we can't check it .......
}
}
else
{
return True; // get_headers apparently isn't available in PHP4
}
}

// Gets a URL's content
function getURL($sURL)
{
if(isURLOnline($sURL) == false)
{
$sURLTemp = 'Unable to connect to server';
return $sURLTemp;
}
else
{
if(@function_exists('file_get_contents') && @ini_get('allow_url_fopen') == true)
{
// Use file_get_contents
$sURLTemp = @file_get_contents($sURL);
}
else
{
// Use cURL (if available)
$curl = @curl_init();
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_URL, $sURL);
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_VERBOSE, 1);
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_HEADER, 0);
curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION, 1);
$sURLTemp = @curl_exec($curl);
@curl_close($curl);
}
return $sURLTemp;
}
}
</syntaxhighlight>

Fetch the code fragment using a line similar to this:

<syntaxhighlight lang="php">
$cavernStatus=getURL("<nowiki>http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat.php?type=raw</nowiki>");
</syntaxhighlight>

This will give you the entire fragment in a string, $cavernStatus, that you can then echo to your own page or manipulate as you wish.

=== JSON-P ===
Setting the type argument in a request to "jsonp" will return output formatted for Javascript Object Notation with Padding, essentially an object of data passed to a callback function. This method is essential if you are trying to fetch the CAVCON data with javascript (due to the same-origin-policy applied by most browsers). To know more about JSONP, its usage and the reason of its existance read [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSONP Wikipedia's Article].
When using this option, it is also necessary to specify the function name of the callback procedure that will parse the returned array in the client, so a second argument, jsoncallback, must be supplied as in the following example:
:http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat.php?type=jsonp&jsoncallback=anyFunctionName
Note that the name of the callback function is not important as far as the server is concerned, but it '''must''' be supplied otherwise an error message will be returned.

In response, the server will return data similar to the following:
<syntaxhighlight lang="jquery">
anyFunctionName({"LED": "http://www.openuru.org/sitestyle/img/led-green.gif",
"State": "Open for exploration!", "Link": "Sign up to play at MystOnline.com!",
"LinkURL": "http://mystonline.com/play/", "Message": "Welcome to Myst Online: Uru Live!
Bug Chucker now available on Android Marketplace!", "Origin": "www.openuru.org",
"OriginURL": "http://www.openuru.org/", "CAVCON": "http://www.openuru.org/sitestyle/img/dollar_yellow2.png"})
</syntaxhighlight>

For clarity, the array returned in the padded object consists of the following members:
* "LED": A URL to the applicable colored status "lamp"; red green or yellow,
* "State": Text string indicating the state of the cavern,
* "Link": Text message intended to be used as anchor text for LinkURL,
* "LinkURL": URL to the current MOULa sign-up/play page at mystonline.com,
* "Message": The Cyan developer message, as shown on the MOULa startup dialogs,
* "Origin": Text message intended to be used as anchor text for OriginURL.
* "OriginURL": URL of the site that the status message has been delivered from.
* "CAVCON": A URL for an icon representing the current CAVCON status. May be empty if a valid CAVCON status cannot be determined from the developer message.
There is no requirement that the end user implements all of these, or that they represent them in any particular manner giving the page designer complete freedom to manage the usage, format and layout as best suits their intended page layout.

=== jQuery ===
The following code can be used to dynamically update the cavern widget on a webpage. This is an independent code, it does not need the PHP code above, just include the jQuery library in your webpage.

Include the following code in the scripts of your webpage. The code assumes you are not using the "No Conflict" option of jQuery. If you are using it, change all the calls to "$" with calls to "jQuery".
<syntaxhighlight lang="jquery">
function CavernStatus(el){
$.ajax({
type:'GET',
url:'http://www.openuru.org/tools/cavstat.php',
data: 'type=jsonp',
dataType: 'jsonp',
jsonp: 'jsoncallback',
crossDomain: true,
success: function(data){
//In this point, if you want, you can manipulate the data received from OpenUru
output='<div id="cspanel"><span class="cshead">Cavern Status:</span><img src="'+data.LED+'"> '+data.State+'<div id="cavstat_link"> - <a href="'+data.LinkURL+'" target="_blank"> '+data.Link+'</a></div><div id="cavstat_row2"><span class="cshead">Developer Message:</span> '+data.Message+' </div><div style="font-size: 8px; text-align: right;"><a href="'+data.OriginURL+'">'+data.Origin+'</a></div></div>';
$(el).html(output);
},
error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown){//What to do if error happens
//You can choose to let the user know the request didn't succeed
},
timeout: 1500//Script timesout in 1.5 seconds if server doesn't respond
})
}
</syntaxhighlight>
In the code above you can see the ''output'' variable that contains the HTML code that will be generated in your web page, you can customize it to follow your website design or preferences. To know more about the member variables of the ''data'' object please consult the section ''JSONP'' above.
Optionally you can insert some error handling code in the error function, where we placed just a comment.

Call the CavernStatus function somewhere in your code (usually when document is ready, with $.ready()), passing the jQuery selector for the element where you want to put the widget. Call it every X seconds to make the widget update dynamically.
In this example we assume the id of the element that will contain the Cavern Status Widget is "widget"
<syntaxhighlight lang="jquery">
$(function(){//Short version of $.ready()
CavernStatus('#widget')//Initial Loading
setInterval("CavernStatus('#widget')",600000)//Update the widget every 10 minutes.
})
</syntaxhighlight>

Minkata Shard: Contributions under Test

2017-03-25T20:26:02Z

Mac Fife: Updated for Minkata.100

This is a list of changes currently accumulating on the Minkata shard for later pick-up into MOULa by Cyan, and how to test them.

== Update 2017-03-25 – Minkata.100 ==

=== Make all account types use the same password hash ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/40 CWE PR #40] by Mac_Fife

Precursor to restoring account creation. Remove conditional on email domain for password hashing. This is only a client modification needed to interface to new code being worked on to reenable Account Creation on MOULa.

=== Don't crash the launcher when the HTTP request for getting the server status message fails ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/38 CWE PR #38] by CWalther

(Update to PR #31, below) This fixes situations where the client would crash or hang if the server providing the status message is not responding when the game is started.

=== Repair Descent Age ===

[http://forums.openuru.org/viewtopic.php?p=8380#p8380 Minkata bug reports] by rarified

Fixed the database corruption preventing an Avatar from successfully linking into Descent, particularly affected new Avatars.

== Changes from Minkata.82/Minkata.88 ==

=== Add functions to fix KI Chat scrolling issue ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/26 CWE PR #26], [https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/moulscript-ou/pull-requests/19 MOULSCRIPT PR #19] by Lyrositor

This fixes a common gripe with KI chat, which has a tendency to scroll down when someone else sends a chat message, even if you have scrolled up.

=== Add additional confirmation to perform an Avatar delete ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/moulscript-ou/pull-requests/20 MOULSCRIPT PR #20] by D'Lanor

Suppose you want to quit MOULa but instead of the quit button you hit the delete button by mistake? (which after all is only a few pixels away) You see a confirmation dialog but since you are under the impression that you are quitting you confirm without reading it... And oops, there goes the avatar that took you many days, even months, to build. Apparently this happens more often than you may think.

I modified the python script so that it now displays a second confirmation dialog after the first one. A user who has hit the wrong button should then notice that the game is not quitting and (hopefully) pay attention to the message onscreen.

Also fixes a problem with the hotspot and highlight colors going crazy after canceling an avatar deletion.
How to test:
#. Create a test avatar
#. Log out
#. Select the test avatar and hit delete
#. In the first confirmation dialog press "Yes"
#. In the second confirmation dialog press "Cancel". Your test avatar should still be there.
#. Repeat steps 3 and 4 7. In the second confirmation dialog press "Yes". Your test avatar should be gone.

=== Add /deletefolder command to delete Journal folders ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/moulscript-ou/pull-requests/21 MOULSCRIPT PR #21] by D'Lanor

Some of the MOULa ages had their names changed through fan fixes. This has left early MOULa avatars with obsolete age journal folders. And apparently on MOULa the KI can also get filled with nonsense age journal folders if you visit the fun house or make use of bots. Just to be clear: Age journal folders are the folders holding your KI notes, images and marker games.

The /deletefolder command allows you to delete those redundant age journal folders from your KI. It does not touch any other type of KI folder, nor does it remove the Incoming folder, which would be bad(tm).

=== Bump a public neighborhood to top of list when someone links to it ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/moulscript-ou/pull-requests/22 MOULSCRIPT PR #22] by CWalther

Public neighborhoods that are in active use stay (near the top) on the list in the Nexus, even after their owners disappear (as is the case for the numerous dedicated Delin & Tsogal hoods that have been made over time.)

=== Improve text rendering (fonts) in KI settings pages ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/36 CWE PR #36], [https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/moulscript-ou/pull-requests/23 MOULSCRIPT PR #23] by CWalther, Hoikas

This makes the text of the mini KI (player list and chat) better readable on light and patterned backgrounds. [It also removes the text shadowing on Big KI pages for better readability]

=== Don't crash when http://support.cyanworlds.com is not available when starting game ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/31 CWE PR #31] by CWalther

This fixes the crash that keeps Windows 7 users out of the game when support.cyanworlds.com is down

=== Fix for forgotten logins when removable media attached ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/33 CWE PR #20] by Mac_Fife

This fixes the problem where your saved login/password disappears (seemingly out of the blue), but was related to how the game was trying to ignore removable media on the machine where the game is installed.

=== Replace non-ASCII characters in C++ files ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/34 CWE PR #34] by CWalther

This fix is internal code changes not visible to the player.

=== Fix stuck-in-intro-cave bug ===

[https://bitbucket.org/OpenUru_org/cwe-ou/pull-requests/37 CWE PR #37] by CWalther

Fix the bug where a new player is stuck in the intro cave with the rotating wall until it occurs to them to press the esc key.

I need to find a way to have your edits automatically get marked as "patrolled" - I think that by now we can trust you not to vandalise the wiki, and I don't particularly want to have mark 500 of your edits as OK when I check in every couple of days ;)
I might just make you an Administrator. - [[User:Mac Fife|Mac Fife]] ([[User talk:Mac Fife|talk]]) 13:29, 25 August 2015 (MDT)
: The edits aren't a problem :). It's just then when I check in, all the edits that haven't been reviewed by either JW or myself (which usually means just me) show up with a red exclamation mark against them, and I need to open each edit history to clear them. Now, I want to see those for people that are new or infrequent editors but not so much for you. - [[User:Mac Fife|Mac Fife]] ([[User talk:Mac Fife|talk]]) 08:37, 26 August 2015 (MDT)
: I've made you an Administrator on the wiki. That means your own edits will be autopatrolled, so they won't flag up as needing attention. Tech Note - DirectX Error Launching CWE Client

Mac Fife: /* Resolution */ Amend download instruction

{{technote|CyanWorlds.com Engine (Client)|v1.897 (a'moaca'/cjkelly1 initial release)<br>thru' v1.902|Missing DLL for DirectX reported when launching the client}}{{clear}}
== Problem Description ==
After the patcher (Urulauncher.exe) runs, the client (Uruexplorer.exe) terminates showing a dialog box with the following error message:

<blockquote class="bluebox">
'''UruExplorer.exe - Unable To Locate Component'''
<hr>
This application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
</blockquote>

This has been observed on Windows XP, SP3 where the machine had an existing DirectX 9.0c installation that was working with MOULagain and Magiquest Online.

== Resolution ==
Some older "redistribution" versions of DirectX 9.0c (e.g. those sometimes supplied packaged with commercial games) do not seem to install all the DLLs that are expected by the currently downloadable DirectX 9 SDK.

Ensure that you have installed the latest version of the DirectX End User Runtime applicable to your Operating System.[http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113] For machines currently running DirectX 9.0c that encounter this error, download the Microsoft DirectX Redistributable Installer[https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109] to update your DirectX installation.

Note that "faulty" installations are not identifiable by version number in DxDiag: In the observed case, the DirectX version was reported as "DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)" both before and after update.

== Dispute - Unable to confirm details ==

I have great reservations about this name being included. The main problem is that it is impossible to correlate anything we know (or believe we know) about Deirdre Karris to any real person. After extensive research, I was unable to find any real life obituary notices that tied in with the information we have. Usually someone knows the real identity of the players in MOULa, and given the magnitude of the memorial event that took place in-game, it is frankly astonishing that a real name, if different to the avatar and forum identities, was not forthcoming. -- [[User:Mac Fife|Mac Fife]] ([[User talk:Mac Fife|talk]]) 16:16, 25 October 2015 (MDT)
: Since this name has now been removed from the MOULa memorial, I'm removing the "disputed" tag and marking the item as belonging to a fictional character. -- [[User:Mac Fife|Mac Fife]] ([[User talk:Mac Fife|talk]]) 15:07, 30 October 2015 (MDT)

Awww, I'm sorry, I guess my methods are pretty messy. I was thoroughly embarrassed to see the 500 edits when I looked at it. I don't suppose the slate can be wiped clean, can it? ; )

== Background ==

== History ==

(“Rasmine” was actually “Ramsine,” a member of the German community which informed Cyan of the error and it was corrected.<ref>[http://www.uru-reallife.com/viewtopic.php?p=56115#p56115 Uru Reallife forum post about Ramsine] ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150826112508/http://www.uru-reallife.com/viewtopic.php?p=56115 WM])</ref>)

October 9th, the name, "Deirdre Karris" was added to the memorial.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=419047#p419047 MOUL forum post by larryf58]</ref>

Requests for adding names to the memorial can be submitted to Richard Watson (RAWA) at Cyan, using the format: <firstName> "<avatarName/nickName>" <lastName>.<ref>[http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=419000#p419000 MOUL forum post by RAWA]</ref>

<div class="user-block">'''''Caution'''''<hr>Anyone considering submitting a name not directly tied to an actual death should also consider the repercussions. == Background ==

== History ==

(“Rasmine” was actually “Ramsine,” a member of the German community which informed Cyan of the error and it was corrected.<ref>[http://www.uru-reallife.com/viewtopic.php?p=56115#p56115 Uru Reallife forum post about Ramsine] ([https://web.archive.org/web/20150826112508/http://www.uru-reallife.com/viewtopic.php?p=56115 WM])</ref>)

The error was discovered in the course of research for this project, RAWA was notified and the name was corrected on September 1, 2015.
