This is intended for use in sub-sections of a document to indicate that the sub-section has been protected (rather than the the whole document being protected). In such cases, this is preferable to using the [[Template:Protected|<nowiki>{{Protected}}</nowiki>]] banner template as it is less disruptive to the readability of the text.
